The Thread Group and Fairhair Alliance aligned to collaborate on Internet standards-based communications in commercial buildings
The Thread Group kicked off the year at CES 2017. We had 17 sponsors exhibiting their Thread-based components, products, and solutions in the Thread Group's booth. CES attendees were able to see first-hand seamless device-to-device communication, built on the low power, highly secure Thread networking protocol.
In addition, the Thread Group and ZigBee Alliance jointly demonstrated successful product integrations running dotdot, the ZigBee Alliance's universal language for smart devices, on Thread networks, which marks an important milestone in the two organization's collaboration as they work to release end-to-end, turnkey product development solutions.
We continue our efforts to expand Thread beyond the connected home into the commercial building and professional sectors. Development and communications about this new initiative for Thread will unfold throughout the remainder of 2017 including a new whitepaper and webinar currently in development.
Regards,
Grant Erickson,
President, Thread Group |

LIAISON AGREEMENTS |
Liaison agreements are intended to accelerate the adoption of interoperable end-to-end solutions in the connected home and commercial buildings. In November 2016, the Thread Group broadened its scope to enable new use cases, both inside the home and beyond. Fairhair is an Alliance of leading companies, from the Lighting, Building Automation and IT industry that aims to facilitate the use of IPv6 for the 'Internet of Things' in buildings. The Thread Group's liaison agreement with the Fairhair Alliance will provide a secure and interoperable IPv6-based networking infrastructure solution for commercial buildings.
Update on Thread and Zigbee Alliance Liaison
The liaison between Thread and the zigbee alliance is making significant progress towards creating a more interoperable world.
At CES 2017, the zigbee alliance announced dotdot - a universal language for the Internet of Things. dotdot (formerly known as ZCLIP) is based on the zigbee alliance's application layer (zigbee cluster library), which is well known to the industry and our many mutual members. This familiarity - and the effort of many of those members - enabled rapid development of early dotdot-over-thread products from major product vendors, interoperating in mirrored demos in both the zigbee alliance and Thread booths at CES.
This progress, which gives vendors interested in Thread a well-supported way to create interoperable devices, has generated significant interest in both Thread and dotdot from the media, market, and industry leaders. We look forward to continued collaboration between our organizations, to the growth of our membership as a result of this liaison, and to growing member value by enabling a larger interoperable Thread ecosystem. |
