As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming new year, I am pleased to share some exciting Thread Group achievements we had in 2024.
Thread Group’s Members Meetings provide an exceptional platform for member companies to showcase their products and contribute significantly to our roadmap development. The recently held Members Meeting in Porto, Portugal, from October 22nd to 24th, was a resounding success, fostering a lively and productive atmosphere. This Members Meeting served as a poignant reflection of the decade that numerous member companies have dedicated to their participation with Thread Group.
We achieved the highest in-person participation for a Members Meeting in our Thread Group’s recent history. Over 80 participants from more than 35 companies attended, along with some of our academic members who sought to explore opportunities for educating the next generation of engineers about Thread technology. We showcased 14 product demonstrations for Matter, DALI+, and KNX IoT. Here, we also commemorated Thread Group’s 10-year anniversary. Years of perseverance and hard work have led us to the current progress of Thread. I am very pleased to have so many dedicated member companies investing and progressing in making Thread successful.
To date, we have certified over 600 Thread products, representing a significant 189% increase since 2023. Notably, over 79% of these certified products are end products that are now available for market purchase. This remarkable growth underscores the accelerated development of Thread products, not only with Matter support but also early products with DALI+ and KNX IoT technologies supporting Thread. We do expect this momentum and acceleration to continue in the years to come. Regarding membership, we have experienced a consistent growth trajectory across all regions, with a notable increase in China. Our membership now stands at over 198 companies, spanning North America, South America, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. This represents a substantial increase of more than 20% over the previous year.
Our Technical, Marketing, and Certification committees made significant progress this year in the release of Thread 1.4. Thread 1.4 was a pivotal achievement that enabled credential sharing across multiple ecosystems. Additionally, it introduced notable features such as Cloud Connectivity, enhanced performance, scalability, and troubleshooting capabilities. Furthermore, Thread networks can now be extended over Wi-Fi or Ethernet networks, and secure commissioning can be achieved using TLS certificates for pre-installed devices in commercial buildings.
This year, we enhanced the awareness of Thread within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) by organizing successful Thread hackathons at the IETF 120 meeting in Vancouver and the IETF 121 meeting in Dublin, which have engaged the community in several of our projects. We intend to replicate these events at upcoming IETF events
May this holiday season bring you moments of peace, joy, and reflection.
Best Regards,
Vividh Siddha President Thread Group
