It is again that time when we are preparing to wind down the current year and charge ahead into yet another chapter in Thread Group history.
This year we have experienced significant growth characterized by a substantial increase in membership and product launches spanning multiple categories. Memberships surpassed a growth rate of 26%, with more than a total of 165 companies, exhibiting a well-balanced distribution across all tiers of membership. It’s important to note that a considerable 46% of our members are Contributors who actively work on the development and implementation of the Thread technology. This indicates that nearly half of our members not only utilize Thread’s technology, but greatly influence its evolution. I would also like to welcome Switchless, Innentech, Rachio Inc., SAGEMCOM BROADBAND SAS, Athom B.V., and Cisco to Thread Group and look forward to their engagement in advancing Thread technology for the development of new products and strengthening the ecosystem.
In addition to membership growth, we now have over 300 Thread-certified devices and components, with 52% of them supporting Matter. It’s also exciting to see that end users, including myself, are having positive experiences with the reliability and low latency features of Thread products that are presently available on the market.
This Fall was busy and exciting for Thread Group! Apple announced that starting with the iPhone 15 Pro, Thread technology would be enabled on mobile devices, and this was a huge deal for the entire Thread ecosystem! In October, we gathered in Budapest, Hungary for our annual Fall Members Meeting and it was fantastic to have the Thread ecosystem looking forward to the potential use cases of Thread on mobile during our Thread on Mobile round table, which included companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, Inventronics, Siemens, and Assa Abloy. Our commercial building members have made significant strides this year in enabling Thread for commercial deployments through the introduction of major KNX-IoT and DALI+ announcements and demonstrations. It was noteworthy to witness yet another Members Meeting where the commercial members conducted the demonstrations. Matter also continues to make progress with the recent announcement of Matter 1.2 enabling additional device types and capabilities including the adoption of Thread 1.3.0, Thread’s latest specification.
I expect 2024 to be another momentous year for Thread in terms of products supporting Matter, KNX-IoT, and DALI+. Our next Members Meeting will be in Toronto, Canada on April 23rd-25th, 2024. I look forward to seeing many of you there and working with you to push Thread Group forward.
Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2024!
Onwards and upwards.
Best Regards,
Vividh Siddha President Thread Group
