How in the world did we make progress on various fronts within the Thread Group during an ongoing pandemic? Because our community members and Board of Directors are remarkable, resilient, adaptive, committed and resourceful!
As we approach the end of the year, I am pleased to report the progress we have made in just over 6 months since the last Virtual Members Meeting in April 2021. It energizes me to see the progress the industry is making in enabling Thread products.
The momentum of enabling components and products continues, and since the start of 2021, we have nearly doubled the number of components and products undergoing certification. Thread as a technology is only relevant if there is a steady growing ecosystem of components and end products supporting Thread. This increase in certification in just over 9 months is an amazing development and a milestone moment for Thread Group. Congratulations and thank you to the entire community for this accomplishment.
Next, our membership has been steady for the last couple of years and in 2021, we have seen an increase in membership across all tiers. I would like to welcome our newest members to the community: Atmosic Technologies, Carnegie Mellon University, EmCom Technology Inc., Furikake Labs LLC, Tuya Global Inc., and Uniband Electronic Corp.
With the easing of travel restrictions, I am hoping that 2022 provides us with an opportunity to meet in person, get to know each other, and drive forward the momentum we have built during the ongoing pandemic. We will make announcements about our 2022 Member Meetings soon, details will be posted to our website when finalized.
I wish all of you good health and look forward to the progress we will all make in 2022.
Stay safe and onwards and upwards.
Best Regards, Vividh Siddha President Thread Group

The Thread Developers webpage is designed for users to identify components, solutions and support available to aid in designing Thread applications. This includes Border Router, Development Environment, Development Hardware, Modules, Operating System, Silicon and Software Stack.
Resources and tools for developers include:
Getting Started with Thread – The OpenThread project is a community-supported, open-source implementation of the Thread specification and offers a number of developer components and resources to kick-start Thread design. Tools – Several tools are available including Commissioning App, Thread Border Router Best Practices, Thread Test Environment and Wireshark. IoT Application Framework – Thread is a network layer connectivity technology, similar to Wi-Fi. This gives Thread device manufacturers the flexibility to choose how their product will interact with other devices. Manufacturers can use their own application and connect to other products through the cloud or an open-standards based application framework can be used to enable the device to interact locally with other devices on the same network. Highlighted frameworks include CoAP, KNX, Matter and OCF. Developing With Thread – A resource providing developers a snapshot of components and solutions available for developing with Thread.
