With great satisfaction and enthusiasm I reflect on our extremely successful—and second largest ever—members meeting in beautiful Zug, Switzerland, hosted by Siemens.
In Zug, we had great engagement and collaboration through an array of exciting demos from current and future Built on Thread certified products and solutions, seeing hints at the future of Thread technology.
The demos collectively reprised and reinvigorated the theme of "many apps, many use cases, many devices, and many clouds: one network, no hubs", with several vendors demonstrating different devices and applications running on a single Thread mesh formed by multiple vendors, among them, Google, with their Nest Hub Max, WiFi Router, and WiFi Point their newly Thread-certified products. Another demo, the Galeries Lafayette / BLUEGRIoT connected hanger, representing the largest, worldwide single mesh deployment of Thread. I had the pleasure of seeing this real-world deployment in person on the Champs Elysee, at the Galleries Lafayette in Paris. When we talk about making Thread real, demos like these are as real as it gets!
As we ease into 2020, we look forward to continued momentum and adoption of Thread 1.1 in certified products and solutions, finalizing Thread 1.2 along with its Bluetooth and Commercial Extensions into a fully-fledged certification program.
I look forward to seeing you in Austin, Texas at the next Members Meeting, sponsored by Silicon Labs, April 21-23, 2020!
Best Regards, Grant Erickson President Thread Group
