We had a fantastic Thread Group Members Meeting in Philadelphia from April 25-27, 2023. This was the first in-person meeting of members since the pandemic where things finally felt normal. The members meeting had a good representation from across the world. Comcast recently joined Thread Group and hosted a Networking Social at their stunning international headquarters in Philadelphia.
The progress made by KNX IoT was the most impressive development at this member meeting. Three of the five demos during the networking event were about KNX IoT. It's exciting to see how far Thread has come in terms of smart building IoT. Thread's scale, lifecycle management, and manageability are becoming increasingly important as business deployments become larger and more stringent. Feedback from member companies is extremely valuable to Thread Group, and from this feedback, we focused this meeting on the next level detail required for deployment. This simply demonstrates that businesses are at a position where they not only have Thread products but are also searching for ways to put into action the scalability and reliability that Thread promises.
Since the completion of Thread 1.3.0 enabling Matter, it's been an exciting time to watch the Thread technology gain traction. We recently passed a key milestone by having over 200 products and components certified with Thread support, and we now have over 50 products certified with Matter support, accounting for approximately 15% of the total products announced with Matter support by The Connectivity Standards Alliance. That only goes to show how much potential Matter has, and Thread Group is focused on making sure all the requirements from Matter are available within Thread.
Another significant achievement is the addition of Thread Border Router capability in existing products from Google, Apple, Samsung SmartThings, and Amazon, as well as others. Because the ecosystems from these companies span the majority of households, I am pleased to inform that Thread is now available in the majority of smart homes. These Border Routers are also compatible, allowing users to mix and match without fear of a lack of interoperability.
Our membership continues to grow, and we are now 147 members strong. I want to extend a warm welcome to Amlogic (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; C.Ed. Schulte GmbH Zylinderschlossfabrik; Comcast Cable Communications, LLC; Delta Electronics; Dexatek Technology Ltd; ecobee Technologies Inc.; geo; Memfault; MI AI; PAMEX INC.; Reliance Jio; SIEGENIA-AUBI KG; Synopsys Inc.; TUO Accessories; and Vaillant Group GmbH. I am excited to learn about your Thread plans.
I'm excited about seeing additional development and product announcements from Matter and KNX IoT before our next member meeting in Budapest, Hungary on October 24-26, 2023. I'm looking forward to meeting many of you and learning about Thread's growth.
Best Regards,
Vividh Siddha President Thread Group

This past March marked an incredible milestone for Thread in Smart Buildings. At ISH 2023, Siemens, a sponsor member of Thread Group, publicly demonstrated several new Thread-based products they have in the pipeline for the first time. Siemens showcased a series of sensors for optimal room data measurement, including a temperature sensor, a combined temperature and humidity sensor, and a sensor that adds CO2 measurement to the temperature and humidity measurement. The sensors are based on the KNX IoT protocol, developed by Thread Group liaison partner, KNX Association.
Siemens also demonstrated their KNX IoT to BACnet IP Gateway, ensuring the sensors can be used in BACnet-based Building Management environments, as well as their Thread Border Router and Thread Range Extender. To learn more, check out this blog post.
Thread technology is increasingly becoming an integral part of the Smart Building product portfolios of Siemens and other leading product manufacturers.
The Thread Group YouTube channel has a growing playlist of videos highlighting Thread technology and Built on Thread products from our members. Recent highlights include:
