What a great start 2021 has been for the Thread Group! During the year of the COVID-19 pandemic and endless health protocols and limitations, our community has made great progress on the technical, marketing and certifications fronts. It's an exciting time to be part of Thread Group as we’ve had very strong product momentum over the last few months. I want to personally acknowledge the years of work put in by the board members, former Thread President Grant Erickson, all Thread member companies, technical, marketing and certification committees, volunteers and the Inventures organization who have made this possible. I look forward to building on that momentum and moving the Thread Group forward.
We recently held a very successful 17th Members Meeting with nearly 200 participants in attendance. A special thanks goes to Joost Demarest (CFO and CTO, KNX Association), Jerome Gackel (CEO, Eve Systems), Tim Böth (Product and Brand Manager, Eve Systems) and Casto Cañavate Fernández (Chairman, IP-BLiS & Marketing Lead, KNX Association) for their insightful presentations.
On the membership front, we are making steady but strong progress and have added 16 new members to the Thread Group. We’re excited to welcome ADD GRUP, AGH University of Science and Technology, Bouffalo Lab, Ecobee, Eltako, ISE, Mediola, OPS, Orange, Piaro, Spintly, Synaptics, University of North Iowa, and Universidad Tecnologica Nacional Facultad Regional Buenos Aires and look forward to their contributions.
Thread adoption has been robust and we’ve added a new Thread certified component from Nordic as well as Built on Thread products from Eve and Nanoleaf that have created renewed excitement and enthusiasm in Thread technology. The ease-of-use, reliability, performance and scalability which are central tenets of Thread make these products exciting and appealing to the market. We look forward to more product announcements in the future.
Lastly, we continue our healthy collaborations with BACnet International, Connectivity Standards Alliance, DALI Alliance, IP-BLiS, KNX Association and OCF to promote and enable the Internet Protocol as a secure infrastructure for building, lighting and the IoT industry worldwide.
I wish all of you good health and look forward to engaging with you.
Stay safe and healthy.

The Thread Group and the DALI Alliance recently announced that the DALI Alliance has adopted Thread as the first network technology that will be available with DALI+. The DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) protocol for digital lighting control enables the easy installation of robust, scalable, and flexible lighting networks. The DALI+ specification, announced in early May 2021, brings DALI lighting-control commands to wireless and Internet Protocol (IP)-based systems. DALI+ with Thread will be the first network transport to deliver DALI over wireless, IP-based networks.
The availability of DALI+ with Thread is a result of the two associations’ April 2020 liaison agreement. The DALI Alliance is now developing tests for the ‘DALI+ with Thread’ certification program, with certified products and solutions expected to be available shortly thereafter. The DALI Alliance also runs the certification programs for wired DALI-2 and D4i solutions, which has brought nearly two thousand certified lighting-control products to market.
