The first consumer mesh Wi-Fi system, eero blankets any home in reliable and secure Wi-Fi. eero offers advanced online security tools, eero Secure and eero Secure+, to help protect connected devices, privacy, and family. eero Pro 6E, eero Pro 6, eero 6+, eero 6, eero Pro (Wi-Fi 5), and eero Beacon all serve as Thread Border Routers, eliminating the need for proprietary bridges or gateways.

THE CHALLENGE
eero’s product development team had a number of requirements when selecting wireless technologies for its line of Wi-Fi routers.
From a hardware perspective, flexibility was a high priority as was the option to enable multi-protocol operation for wireless solutions such as Thread, Zigbee and Bluetooth.
As the market’s first consumer mesh Wi-Fi product, the concept of mesh, inherent to eero’s business, was also critical in its product development efforts.
And with the fragmented landscape of the smart home market, it was crucial to find solutions that differentiated eero’s product line without putting a strain on internal resources.

THE PROCESS
There were several factors that led eero to select Thread for its line of Wi-Fi routers.
First, both organizations have a shared vision on the benefits of mesh networking. Thread’s mesh networking technology is complementary to eero’s TrueMesh which allows multiple devices to work together and send connections in all directions.
Additionally, both eero and Thread are committed to delivering a fast, secure, and reliable network experience and integration of Thread was cost effective from both a hardware and software perspective.

THE SOLUTION
As a complementary mesh technology that offers seamless integration, Thread has become an ingredient in all of eero’s products, including the eero Pro, eero Beacon, eero Pro 6, eero 6, eero Pro 6E, and eero 6+.
Each Thread-capable eero acts as a Border Router, providing connectivity between the Thread mesh network and the end user’s other Wi-Fi/ethernet devices. eero, and other always-on devices like lights and smart plugs, also act as Thread mesh extenders (a Thread device that forwards traffic for other devices and extends the overall coverage area of the Thread network).
By adding support for Matter with Thread and Wi-Fi, eero is continuing its efforts to ensure consumers can use Alexa with as many devices as possible while allowing device makers to build with their preferred protocols.

Competitive Advantage
- Mesh Networking – eero’s proprietary TrueMesh in combination with Thread optimizes end user networks and adapts to their usage to maximize the connection.
- Simple and Reliable – Dual-band and tri-band Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 products
- Secure – Encryption and security protocols automatically protect the network from any threats.
- Future-Proof – Thread, alongside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, is a pillar of the forthcoming Matter standard, which means eero routers are future-proof.
