Thread Group’s commitment to improving people’s experience in smart homes and buildings relies on our members, who represent companies across the IoT spectrum. That’s why we’re excited to announce that both Amazon and Samsung SmartThings have joined the Thread Group’s Board of Directors within recent weeks.
The last 18 months mark a dramatic shift in people’s living preferences, and our new members’ deep knowledge of the features and integrations that people are seeking will be invaluable as we continue to improve how connected homes, devices and buildings can perform.
These two long-time member organizations are expanding their roles in Thread Group to help drive the future of connected living and IoT, while underscoring their promise of advancing the adoption of Matter, and Thread, in Smart Home ecosystems and products.
Matter with Thread supports lower-bandwidth use cases with long-range, resilient, and low-power requirements. The common Internet Protocol technology used by both Matter and Thread enables this convergence which will ultimately give consumers the assurance that any device built on Matter is reliable, secure, and compatible.
Amazon and SmartThings join the existing Board of Directors, which includes leading companies across the IoT ecosystem: Apple, Google, NXP, OSRAM, Somfy, Lutron, Nordic Semiconductor, Qualcomm, Siemens, Silicon Labs, and Yale.
It’s a transformational time for smart home IoT, so we’re thrilled that Amazon and SmartThings are increasing their pledge to the organization’s overall goal of establishing the widespread adoption of Thread technology in connected homes and buildings.
