What to Expect from the Thread Group at CES 2017

By Thread Group

The number of smarter and more efficient homes increases daily, driven by smart devices interacting with connected or customized security monitoring systems, appliances, lighting, window coverings, entertainment systems and more. As a result, homeowners continue to enjoy more convenience and comfort. The Thread Group is thrilled to be a part of this thriving smart home industry, and is poised to revolutionize how devices are connected in the places where people live and work.

2016 was a busy year for Thread Group! Here are just some of the achievements Thread Group experienced:

  • Approval and release of the 1.1 specification
  • Availability of three spec compliant stacks and test resources/tools
  • New and continued liaison partnerships with EEBus, Open Connectivity Forum, and ZigBee Alliance
  • The expansion of Thread technology beyond the home into the commercial and professional sectors
  • Demonstrating various application layers on Thread at the November Thread All Member Meeting

We plan to continue this momentum throughout the next year, starting off by exhibiting at CES 2017, the global consumer electronics and technology tradeshow in Las Vegas.

We expect that this year's CES will provide further affirmation that an internet protocol based and open standard technology is the best way to connect and control products in the home - and beyond. The smart home is gaining widespread adoption as consumers see the benefits of device-to-device and device-to-cloud communication in their lives. However, the strength of this consumer demand relies on all products in the home working seamlessly together, and this connectivity can truly be achieved if companies find ways to work together.

You'll see this collaboration at our booth 40343 in the Sands Convention Center, where we'll be showcasing Thread-based solutions from 17 of our members, including: Alphabet /Google /Nest, Altiux, Dialog Semiconductor, Haiku Homes, Lightpad, Linx Technologies, Nortek, NXP, OSRAM, Resolution Products, Rigado, Samsung/Legrand, Schneider Electric, Silicon Labs, Texas Instruments and Yale. Please come visit us and our members.

Also, be sure to stop by to hear Thread's President, Grant Erickson speak at Connections Summit - IoT and Smart Home: Seamless Interoperability from 1:15-2:30pm, Thursday, January 5. This session will examine the various efforts taking place today - and future strategies unfolding - to achieve interoperability, and its importance in realizing the smart, connected home.

Look forward to seeing you at CES!
